Ultimate Guide to the Hidden Gem Skagit Valley Tulips

Chances are, you’ve been charmed by the beauty of the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival on social media. Every April, it’s rare for me to scroll my feed without spotting a tulip post. People travel from all over the world to experience this stunning spring display in Washington State, and it’s easy to see why. It’s truly a bucket list experience. Or, if you live in the Pacific Northwest like I do, maybe it’s become a cherished spring tradition that helps carry you through the chilly winter months.

No matter how far you’re coming from, the number one question most visitors have is: Which tulip field should I visit? I know, because I’ve been there too. It’s easy to assume the festival happens in one big central location, but in reality, it spans multiple farms across Skagit County—mainly centered around Mount Vernon, La Conner, and a handful of family-run fields nearby.

After many years of visiting the larger, well-known farms, I discovered Tulip Valley Farms in 2025. The farm was first planted in 2022 and was still relatively new on the scene when I stumbled upon it. My curiosity paid off—this smaller, lesser-known spot quickly became a personal favorite.

But what I found at Tulip Valley Farms surprised me: a tranquil, garden-like setting with rows of tulips framed by young hazelnut trees. It truly felt like I had stepped into a storybook.

If you’re anything like me and love finding lesser-known gems in popular destinations, then Tulip Valley Farms should be on your list. Keep reading for everything you need to know!

Why Tulip Valley Farms is a Hidden Gem

As the newer kid on the tulip block, Tulip Valley Farms offers something different: a peaceful, more intimate vibe. Don’t get me wrong—I love the grandeur of the larger farms, but they can feel crowded and a little stressful, especially when you’re vying for a photo without a stranger in the background.

Tulip Valley Farms, on the other hand, feels like the kind of place where you know the farmer (hi Andrew—follow along on Instagram for daily bloom updates!). It’s friendly, laidback, and less hectic than the bigger fields. In other words, it’s a tulip experience that feels more like a local secret.

As the festival gets more popular each year, I highly recommend visiting Tulip Valley Farms sooner than later—especially if you’re looking for a calm, beautiful escape.

What Makes This Skagit Valley Farm So Special?

Okay so let’s unpack exactly why I am completly enchanted by Tulip Valley Farms, and think you will be too!

Dog-Friendly

The fact that Kyle and I could bring our 10-year-old yellow labrador retriever, Lilo, with us to stroll through the fields totally sold us. Much like us, she prefers low-key experiences. So, we opted for a sunrise visit and it was 11/10. So peaceful, quiet.

Even on a Sunday morning, there were only a few other guests, and everyone had space to roam. It felt like we were seeing the tulip festival through fresh eyes.

If you’re bringing your pup, you’ll need a $5 pet pass (it covers multiple pets). And of course—pack waste bags and keep your dog on a short leash to protect the flowers.

U-Pick

It’s clear that Tulip Valley Farms prides themselves on providing a memorable experience, and part of that is that they are the only fields in the Skagit Valley to offer u-pick. This means that you can grab a bucket, head to the designated rows, and pluck the blooms that speak to you – adding a burst of color to your home that keep the magic alive far after you’ve left.

Bestie Tip: For the longest lasting flowers, come early in the season and pick tulips that haven’t opened up yet. Don’t worry: they will eventually, but until then you can still enjoy their beauty!

Stress-Free Parking

I don’t know about you, but easy parking makes a huge difference for me. At Tulip Valley Farms, parking is free, and the entrance is just a few steps from your car. No stress if you forget your windbreaker or your camera—you can grab it in a flash.

Night Bloom

Lastly, if you are staying overnight on a weekend in the Skagit Valley a fun family-friendly experience is to return to Tulip Valley Farms for a one-of-a-kind display of lights, lasers, and music. This is a totally fresh take on ways to enjoy the tulip fields, and there is really no offering like it.

While I would not recommend only visting during the Night Bloom (it is a bit tough to actually see all of the flowers), it is an awesome way to pack adventure into those short spring days after the sun goes down.

What I loved most? Watching the moonlight shimmer over the tulips, with stars twinkling above and wisps of clouds drifting by. It felt like springtime magic.

When is the Best Time to Visit Tulip Valley Farms?

Basically anytime in April is ideal for visiting. However, I strongly suggest following Tulip Valley Farms on Instagram so that you can keep tabs on their bloom status (or look back on last year’s timing to help you gauge when to visit).

Additionally, I am not exaggerating when I say that the morning’s golden hour left me speechless. So, if you can, it is 100% worth rising with the sun to see the soft sunrise light on the flowers – especially if you are a photographer.

Tips for a Lovely Day

  • Buy tickets online ahead of time to save money (you’ll save about $3 per adult)
  • Bring waterproof boots like rainboots (good to have in your car just in case recent rain left the fields muddy)
  • Pack a picnic to enjoy in the fields
  • Don’t forget the pet pass if you’re bringing a furry friend

Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a fantastic visit!
