Discover Wildflowers near Tacoma at the New Van Lierop Park
Looking for wildflowers near Tacoma?
Whether you’re in search of instagrammable spots in Tacoma, photography spots in Puyallup, or beautiful parks in Pierce County, Van Lierop Park (and its field of wild perennial lupines) waits to be discovered.
A recent addition to city parks, this one offers stunning sights of Tahoma. That is, of course, if the clouds cooperate.
In early spring, daffodils line the grassy corridor. And a daffodil-painted walkway sets the stage for a lively visit anytime of year. You may be familiar with the history of the daffodil in Puyallup, but if not then know it’s a nod to the area’s agricultural past.
From mid-May through June, a field of picturesque purple lupine sways the scene, stretching on and on. Bees buzz. A breeze gently blows through the flowers – California poppies and wild daisies included!
Flower fields in Washington draw in crowds like magnets. Thankfully, Van Lierop Park is more accessible and less busy than the rest!

What to Expect Beyond Wildflowers at Van Lierop Park
- A 20 minute drive from Tacoma. Parking is available in a small paved parking lot or gravel area along the road. Or if you prefer biking, then take a brief detour from the Foothills Trail and cross the road at the East Puyallup Trailhead. The address is 7999-7529 134th Ave E, Puyallup, WA.
- A paved path appropriate for walkers, joggers, and bikers runs through this quaint park. The flat terrain and short path makes this an easy choice for families.
- Look for a bench swing on the North end of the path. It’s a perfect place to marvel at the mountain.
- Hiking boots are not needed, though they might be a good idea if you plan on exploring the flower fields. If you do, please tread lightly! Check out the #1 most comfortable, supportive, and durable hiking boots like these:
- Farm 12 Restaurant is next door, so why not support a local business by grabbing a bite to eat? See the menu here, to-go options available. Plan your trip at off-peak dining times. Note that parking fills up during weekends and events.
