A Visitor’s Guide to the Best Bend Oregon Coffee Shops
Wondering where to find the best Bend coffee shops? Known for their local roasting, eye for aesthetics, and sustainable practices these coffee shops do not disappoint. Here are the top 5 coffee shops to visit on your trip to Bend, Oregon.
If you’re anything like me, then no trip is complete without exploring the local coffee scene. After all, we need a good cup of Joe to fuel adventures (especially catching sunrise).
It’s no secret that Bend, Oregon, is well-loved for its breweries. You’ll find beers and ciders at most eateries. To our surprise, coffee shops are no exclusion.
So, don’t be surprised if you see a few alcoholic drinks on the menu.
By far, one of the most impressive parts about all of the Bend coffee shops was their care for sustainability. This reflects Bend’s environmental ethos as a city.
For example, the norm is to serve coffee without lids and straws. In most cases, they are available. You’ll just need to grab them yourself.
It’s simple, but it works. Just think of all the single use plastic it saves!
Additionally, prepare to get mobile receipts. To protect forests, many shops have gone paperless. Personally, I think it’s more convenient and love how it reduces litter too.

Lone Pine Coffee Roasters
Hands down, the most aesthetically pleasing coffee shop in Bend is Lone Pine Coffee Roasters!
Walking in, you’ll be greeted by beautiful house plants. And if you fall in love at first sight, that’s okay. The plants are for sale! So you can bring one home as a living souvenir. Cool, huh?
Beyond a the lush atmosphere, you’ll also experience a modern boho style. There’s ample seating – from leather couches to barstools to wooden tables. Plus, there’s huge windows and a garage door that let lots of light in.
Lone Pine Coffee prides themselves on being a place for community, so a space as generous as this is fitting.
Also, have you ever heard of hay straws? I hadn’t until my visit. It’s refreshing to see creative, sustainable alternatives to plastic and this might be my favorite so far!
If you’re wondering, they did hold up unlike some paper straws.
Need a place to squeeze in some work on your trip to Bend? Lone Pine Coffee Roasters is it. This location, specifically!
Located at 910 NW Harriman St #150. Order ahead and view the menu here.
Pro Tip: Since the sign is on the corner, it is easy to miss if approaching from the North. Don’t worry, if you see Unofficial Logging you’re in the right place. They share a building, with Lone Pine in the back.
Thump Coffee
Just arrived in Bend? Stop by Thump Coffee in Old Town / Downtown. That was our very first stop!
Speaking from experience, it’s so awesome to grab coffee after being on the road and in such a historic area nonetheless.
And, we received such caring service here! We enjoyed a lovely conversation with a barista about how it was our first time here. Definitely a good note to start the trip on!
Since Thump Coffee is so centrally located, it’s the perfect stop if you’re planning to check out the shops.
However, there isn’t a ton of seating since it’s downtown. On a sunny day, you could enjoy seating at a handful out outdoor tables. Probably good for conversation, but not for working or reading (due to car and pedestrian noise).
Located at 25 NW Minesota Ave.
Or, if you’re looking for a place to stay and relax for awhile try this Thump Coffee location just a few miles South: 549 NW York DR, STE. 200.
Hungry? Check out their light selection of sandwiches.

McKay Cottage Restaurant
Although McKay Cottage Restaurant doesn’t sound like a cafe, it has one in it!
Right through the front door, you’ll find a tasty selection of homemade baked goods like scones, cinnamon rolls, and muffins that you can get to-go.
We tried a butter scone and it was delicious and generously sized.
Of course, you can dine in too.
Since this is the best breakfast spot in Bend, there’s often a ~15-20 minute wait to be seated. But, you can go ahead and start sipping coffee now by ordering in the cafe.
If you have a sweet tooth like I do, you’ll love the McKay Mocha. It’s made with local ingredients like Thump Coffee and chocolate. It was not too rich or sweet!
Pro Tip: If you decide to order to-go, visit nearby Sawyer Park. It’s just 0.3 miles down the road. We loved the refreshing views of the Deschutes River. And, there’s plenty of picnic tables to enjoy your food and drinks!

Backporch Coffee Roasters
At the heart of Bend coffee is Backporch Coffee Roasters. They’re local to Bend and proudly serve customers in 4 locations. You can find them in the Old Bend, River West, and Orchard District neighborhoods.
Of them all, I highly recommend this location: 706 NE Greenwood Ave.
Although the coffee shop is conveniently located on a corner and offers ample seating, that’s not the reason it’s my top pick.
In fact, it’s because of how close it is to Pilot Butte.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Pilot Butte is an extinct lava dome right in Bend! It’s on my list of things to do in Bend, Oregon.
In the summer, you can drive to the top and enjoy 360 degree views overlooking the city and the striking Cascade Mountains. It’s incredible!
After much searching, I rank this at is the best sunset spot in Bend.
While the road is closed seasonally because of winter weather, you can still hike up it.
Either way, this is a great Bend coffee shop to stop at while exploring Pilot Butte.
Dutch Bros Coffee
If you live in or have traveled to the Pacific Northwest, you’ve likely heard of Dutch Bros Coffee. Seen any windmills?
The popular Oregon-based coffee chain offers drive-thru or walk-up drinks. Here, you’ll find favorites like cold brew, chai, and americanos.
But, what really sets Dutch Butch apart is their handful of signature drinks like the Dutch freeze or frost. Check out the full menu here.
Overall, Dutch Brows Coffee is known for its fun flavors (like cotton candy). So, if you’re in the spirit to try something new this is it!
And, if you’re in a rush and would prefer a drive-thru experience then I also recommend Dutch Bros.
